Island of Anjouan – the Bimbini peninsula

The marine and coastal area of the Bimbini peninsula in Anjouan is home to a rich biodiversity, both at the ecosystem level (mangrove, developed fringing coral reefs, beaches formerly used by turtles as nesting sites, sea grass beds and the coastal marsh of Pomoni) and at specific level. The Bimbini Mangrove is a fragmented strip of mangroves that stretches 7 km from the southwest coast. Seagrass beds are developed and serve as habitat and feeding grounds for many species, including the sea turtles Chelonia mydas and the dugong Dugong dugon.
